Jacob Diederich died at his home in Granville Monday afternoon March 15, following an illness of about a week of pneumonia and heart trouble. Mr. Diederich was born in Stegen, Luxemburg October 19, 1846 and came to America in 1868. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Friedman April 17, 1874 and with his wife made their home at Arcadia for one year. then they moved near Granville on a farm in O'Brien county. In 1890 they moved to a farm in Sioux county. Here they remained until six years ago when they moved to Granville. During this time he made numberless friends here who will regret his demise. Mr. Diederich was the father of eight children of whom seven survive him. They are, Mrs. Laurence Spieler, Granville; Mrs. F.J. Georgen, Granville; Mrs. Peter Jonas, Alton; Margaret of Dyersville; Frank, Kathryn and Paul at home. His daughter Mary preceded him in death thirty-three years ago. Besides his children he leaves to mourn his death his wife, who has always been a faithful and loving companion. He also leaves one brother, Frank Diederich of LeMars, and three sisters, Mrs. Madeline Steinfort of Granville, Mrs. Peter Kriebs of Adrian, Minn., and Elizabeth Diederich of Quincy, Ill., and seventeen grandchildren. To the bereaved family the profound sympathy of the community is extended. Mr. Diederich was always a devout member of the Catholic church. He was a loving father, a kind husband and a good neighbor and citizen. Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's church Thursday morning at nine o'clock. Rev. Gerleman officiating. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. The pall bearers were: Geo. Schmidt, Wm. Fobes, N.H. Graff. J.P. Fischbach, Felix Schutz and Val Koehler. The out-of-town relatives that attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Friedman, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kaschmitter and Mr. and Mrs. Barney Pottebaum of Alton. Nick Gaul and daughter Elizabeth of Earling, Ia., Peter Kriebs and Mrs. Stoffel of Adrian, Minn., Mrs. Frank Diederich of LeMars, Mrs. Paul Harkel and Mrs. John Gaul of Bancroft, Ia., and Jake Friedman of Dyersville.
