Mrs. Mathias Minten Funeral Thursday

Mrs. Mathias Minten passed away Monday morning, February 14, at 10:00 o'clock after several months of illness. Funeral services will be held .this Thursday morning at 9:00 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Magdalena Gehlen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Gehlen. pioneer settlers here, was born October 7, 1873. on a farm east of the site of Alton. (The Phil Hoffman family now reside on this farm).

She was married January 24, 1893 to Mathias Minten at Sublimity. Oregon, where the Gehlen family had moved. The couple farmed for many years and moved to Alton a few years before. Mr. Minten's death on July 24. 1935.

Surviving are seven children, the oldest daughter, Mrs. Will Pottebaum (Olivia) having preceded her mother in death. The children are Sylvia, Sylvester, Bernard, Peter and Mrs. Ted Versteeg, all of Alton, Mrs. Rose Mousel and Mrs. Hilary Konz of Sioux City. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren and by five brothers and sisters living in the west. A brother Ben Gehlen of Camas, Washington, arrived in Alton last week and other were expected in time for the services Thursday. The many friends of the family deeply regret Mrs. Minten's passing and sympathize with the children in their loss.
