MRS. MCDONALD, PIONEER, DIES--SERVICES HELD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON FOR RESIDENT OF THIS VICINITY FOR 63 YEARS

Mrs. Mary McDonald, 87, a pioneer resident of this vicinity for 63 years, died Monday morning at the S.R. McAninch home for the aged. Mrs. McDonald was bedfast for three weeks before her death.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral Home with Reverend B. Roy Brown of the Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mary Schoonmaker, daughter of Henry and Margaret (Lown) Schoonmaker, was born March 9, 1863, at Winnebago, Illinois. There she grew to womanhood and married James McDonald in 1885. After her marriage she came to this vicinity, locating on a farm 8 miles southeast of Hawarden. She lived on the farm 37 years when she and her husband came to Hawarden to live. The last eight years she has lived at the McAninch home.

Survivors are five daughters and one son, Mrs. Gertie Dick of Alcester, Mrs. Rose Freestone of Seattle, Miss Lottie McDonald of New York City, Mrs. Lillian Bradford of Los Angeles, Mrs. Florence Chamberlin of Portland, Oregon, and Elmer of Armour, South Dakota; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her husband and three children preceded her in death.
