From the Sioux County Index (Hull), February 8, 1929:

Mrs. W. Schlossin, a resident of Hull for 47 years, died at her home Saturday, February 2nd, after ailing from diabetes for nine years and from dropsy since last November. She was buried in the Lutheran church northeast of Hull, Iowa, Tuesday, February 5th, the services being conducted by Rev. Goeringer, the pastor.

Mrs. Schlossin was born in the Province of Pomerania, Germany, February 11, 1854 and reached the age of 74 years, 11 months and 22 days. Her girlhood was spent in her native land in the customary manner, attending school until the age of 14 years, when she was confirmed into the Lutheran Church. After this she was apprenticed to a seamstress which meant that before she was to learn much about sewing, it was necessary for her to work in the fields and do such other menial work as her mistress desired. Her apprenticeship finished, she was permitted to work at the trade and travel here and there, wherever her services were sought.

On September 18, 1879 she was united in marriage with W. Schlossin. Several years after, in April, 1882, they emigrated to America in company with her father and mother, three sisters and a brother, arriving here when Hull was still called Pattersonville and still much of a frontier community, and the roads angled in from the four corners of the township and centered at a group of buildings called the business section. Her first home here was situated on the lot now occupied by the Hull Hospital. She lived in her recent home for over forty-two years.

Besides her aged husband she leaves to mourn her, three children: Mrs. Henry Techen, of near Hull; William Schlossin, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Albert Schlossin, of George, Iowa; eight grand children, two sisters, Bertha Hinsch and Amelia Stahl, who live in Texas; and a brother, Albert Busch, also of that state. The Index wishes to join the many friends of the surviving husband and children in extending sincere sympathy.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index spells the surname Schlosin. It lists only her husband William (1850-1929), with another entry for Schlosin, No Name [evidently Augusta], born 11 Feb 1854, died 2 Feb 1929, St. Pauls Luth Cem, Hull IA. This appears to be the only source that spells the surname with a single “s”.

Her death certificate has Augusta Schlossin, wife of William, born 11 Feb 1854 in Germany; parents Fredrick Busch and Williamena Laeger; resident of the United States and Hull 49 years; occupation, tailor’s wife; died at Hull at 11:50 a.m., February 2, 1929; cause chronic glomerule nephritis, duration 5 years; contributory cause, diabetes mellitus, duration 3 years; buried in the German Lutheran Cemetery, Hull.

U.S. census records and marriage records for their daughters, on Ancestry.com, also spell the family surname Schlossin. Ancestry.com also has a death register entry from the Eastern Prussian Provinces, Germany [Poland] on Ancestry.com that appears to be for their son Hermann. It spells the surname Schlössin, the father Wilhelm Schlössin and the mother Auguste, nee Busch.
