MRS. NICK KOOIMA PASSED AWAY

Mrs. Nick Kooima passed away at her home five miles south of Inwood Friday morning [January 25] following a brief illness. They had planned to take her to a hospital in Sioux Falls, but she was taken suddenly sick which made it impossible to move her.

Mrs. Kooima was born in the Netherlands March 29, 1879, where her early life was spent. She came to this country about twenty-eight years ago and since that time has lived in this vicinity. She was united in marriage to Nick Kooima March 6, 1903. To this union seven children were born, all of whom are living in this vicinity.

Funeral services were held in the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley Tuesday afternoon, the services being in charge of Reverend Goert of Lebanon. Many friends were present at the funeral services, who in this way showed their sympathy for the bereaved husband and children and other relatives.

A death announcement in De Volksvriend names her survivors: Nick Kooima, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Veldman, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kooima, Simon, Anna, Jake, Roelina, and Clarence Kooima, three grandchildren.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Kooima, Henderktje, b. 1879, d. 1929, wife of Klaas, Valley View Cem Rock Valley IA.

Her death certificate has her as Mrs. Hendrikja Koima, married (husband’s name not given, but Klaas Koima is the informant); born May 2, 1879 in Holland; parents Fred Konning and Anje Dykema; died at 8:45 a.m. January 25, 1929; cause, acute pancreatitis. Place of death is given as Sioux County, Iowa, Sioux Township, Hudson, South Dakota.

FindaGrave.com has her as Henderktje “Hattie” Koning Kooima; born 29 Mar 1879 in Thesinge, Ten Boer Municipality, Groningen, Netherlands; died 25 Jan 1929 at Inwood, Lyon County, Iowa; buried in Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley; spouse Klaas Kooima (1876-1930, married 1903). Four of her children are listed. There is a photo of her headstone.

The 1925 Iowa state census has her as Hattie and her husband as Nick; her parents are Fred Koening and Anna[?] Dykema.
