From the Boyden Reporter, February 5[?], 1929:
(This seems to be a typo in the masthead; should be February 7]

JEANETTE JOHANNA SCHOLTEN

Jeanette Johanna Scholten died on Monday, February 4, 1929, at the age of six years, one month and six days, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Scholten. She had been ill since last June with Malta fever, complicated by influenza and a weak heart. Funeral services were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon and interment was made in the Alton cemetery. Rev. Huissen had charge of the services. She was born on Christmas day, being born on December 25, 1922.

Jeanette was the only daughter, the oldest of the children. She had a sweet and lovable disposition which made her a deeply loved friend of all those who knew her. [Followed by a sentimental poem]

RESEARCH NOTES

Malta fever is another name for brucellosis.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index erroneously gives her death date as 24 Feb 1929.

Her death certificate adds her parents, Lambert Scholten, born in Iowa, and Anna Verhoven, born in Michigan; says she died at Hull; and gives the cause of her death as undulent fever [another name for brucellosis], duration 7 months 4 days; contributory cause, endocarditis, duration 3 years.
