Gertrude Greenfield Hibma, age 93, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Rev. Bill Van Der Heide officiating.

Graveside Services will be Saturday, April 7, following the Funeral Service and lunch, at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, Iowa.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 7, from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. at the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan, prior to the Funeral Service.

Gertrude Greenfield Hibma was born on February 20, 1925 in Bigelow, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Cornelius and Grace (Rutgers) Runia. She lived her youth in Bigelow, Minnesota and Ocheyedan, Iowa. She attended Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa, graduating in 1942.
She was united in marriage to William Greenfield of Sibley, Iowa on March 27, 1946 in Leighton, Iowa. They farmed near Cloverdale, Iowa until 1981. William passed away on August 24, 1981.
She was united in marriage to Elmer Hibma on January 15, 1983. They lived on a farm in Harris, Iowa, until 1996, when they moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Elmer passed away on July 29, 2001.
Gertrude enjoyed traveling to Israel, Russia, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Alaska, Hawaii and the Netherlands. She loved flowers, flower gardening and keeping memories alive in pictures (many pictures).
Gertrude was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Ocheyedan and attended the Good News Church in Spirit Lake. She participated in Bible Studies, a quilting group for missions, and was a faithful Crossroads Prison Ministries mentor for over 15 years. She was a member of the Federation of Women’s Club (Keeping Up Club).
She passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Those left to cherish her memories are her 6 children and their spouses, Barbara Whalen of Blaine, MN, Terry (Diane) Greenfield of Homer Glen, IL, Vivian (Lary) Rosenboom of Sheldon, IA, Sherwyn (Debbie) Greenfield of Spirit Lake, IA, Todd (Kristine) Greenfield of Rochester, MN, Scott (Rebecca) Greenfield of Burnsville, MN; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; 5 step-children and their spouses, Karen (Lyle) Pownell of Northfield, MN, Jim (Ginny) Hibma of Worthington, MN, Nancy (William) Jepson of Heppner, OR, Bonnie (Dennis) Pruckler of Cedar Falls, IA, Lori (Wade) Duroe of Chippewa, WI; 20 step-grandchildren, 31 step-great-grandchildren; 8 foster children; 3 sisters and brother-in-law, Katherine (LeRoy) Hanenburg of Lone Tree, CO, Lois Cuperus of Mesa, AZ, Esther DeBoer of Sanborn, IA; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter (Bertie) Runia of Ocheyedan, IA and Alvin (Mary) Runia of Ocheyedan, IA; one brother-in-law, Arlan Wiekamp of Sheldon, IA, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Greenfield and Elmer Hibma; granddaughter, Becky Greenfield Coleman; son-in-law, Edward Whalen; sister, Eunice Wiekamp; brother and sister-in-law, John (Joan) Runia; 2 brothers-in-law, Erwin Cuperus and Charles DeBoer.
