Wilmina Evadean was born on September 2, 1924, in Orange City, the youngest of two daughters born to Ben and Tillie (Hoekstra) Nibbelink. She was raised on a farm near Orange City, in a family where the preferred language was Dutch. Shortly after graduating from Northwestern Academy, Wilmina lost her father unexpectedly. A few years later, God provided comfort in the form of a recent Dutch immigrant, Andy Van Dyk, whom she met at church society gatherings. They were married August 22, 1950, and settled on the Nibbelink home farm.

In the early years of their marriage, Wilmina spent her time tending a large garden, sewing, and raising a family. They were members of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she taught Sunday School and catechism classes. Later, Andy and Wilmina became charter members of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church. In these years, they were blessed to become grandparents, which brought them great joy; they also volunteered with the Christian Reformed Church World Relief Committee (CRWRC) and Justice for All. After 43 years on the farm, Andy and Wilmina moved to Orange City, where she volunteered for many years at the Christian School, Bibles for Missions, and the Crossroads Bible Institute. Andy passed away on October 9, 2005, after more than 55 years of marriage.

Wilmina enjoyed puzzles, Sudoku, board games, reading, crocheting, knitting, quilting, playing piano, and Bible studies. She loved being active and involved, participating in a wide variety of family, church, school and community events; she was delighted with her VIP seating at OCCS music programs.

Throughout her life, she was appreciated for her thoughtfulness, uncanny memory, dry sense of humor, courage in the face of adversity, and faithfulness in prayer.

Survivors include her children; Geralyn, and her husband, Robert Van Ruler of Sioux Center; Benita Postema of Westminster, Colorado; son-in-law, James Mouw, and his wife, Nancy Thomas-Mouw of Sioux Center; John Van Dyk, and his wife, Ellen of Littleton, Colorado; Linda Van Dyk, and her husband, Eric Clambey of Denver, Colorado; and Judith, and her husband, Tony Van Berkel of Sioux Center; sixteen grandchildren; Amy Ross, Michael Van Ruler, Daniel Van Ruler, Kristi Postema, Jaclyn Kirwan, Megan Whitfield, Jamie Netjes, Kelly Franken, Nicholas Mouw, Jonathan Mouw, Chelsea Van Dyk, Benjamin Van Dyk, Lula Clambey, Hank Clambey, Bianca Van Berkel, and Lucas Van Berkel; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law and her husband, Anna Marie and Simon Scheepsma, of Sneek, Friesland; many treasured nephews and nieces, and her devoted friend, Kim Starkenburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Thea Jane Mouw, in July of 2009; a sister and her husband, Theresia and Dick Mulder; and Andy’s siblings; Trijntje Zwaagstra, Gerben Van Dyk, Tina Boertje, and Ynze, Jitze Piet, Jelle, and Sijbren Van Dijk.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Christian School, or the Sioux Center Home Health and Hospice.
