Mr. Robert Albers, age 69, of Alton, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at his residence.

There will be a private family service on Saturday, March 24, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Robert Virgil was born on August 19, 1948, in Le Mars, the son of Virgil and Elizabeth “Elsie” (Schnoes) Albers. He was raised in Alton. He attended the St. Mary’s Catholic School, the Techny Seminary near Chicago, Illinois, his freshman and sophomore years of high school, and graduated from the Spalding Catholic High School in Granville. From January of 1967 to September of 1969, he served in the United States Navy.

On June 13, 1970, he married Susan “Sue” Hatz at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. They made their home in Le Mars and Polk City, Iowa, Zanesville, Ohio, and finally settled in Alton. He was the manager of a retail shoe store for Richmond Gordon. He then drove semi-truck for Schuster Trucking in Le Mars.

Bob was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He enjoyed watching television, reading, making his yard look nice, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of more than 47 years; four sons and their wives, Troy and Sandy Albers, of Alton; Chris and Amy Albers, of Sioux Falls; South Dakota; and Jason and Jody Albers and Tom and Leah Albers, all of Alton; ten grandchildren, Allison, and her husband, John Foreman, of Hospers; Maria, Greg, and Ellie Albers, all of Alton; Ruby and Talon Albers, of Alton; Blake, Hadley, and Haven Albers, of Sioux Falls, with one more on the way; and Jaxson Albers, of Alton; a brother and his wife, Mike and Ester Albers, of Alton; a niece, Michelle Albers, of Alton; and Michelle’s son, James.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Sue’s parents, Vernon and Lorraine Hatz.

Memorials may be directed to a Military Veteran Non-Profit organization.
