Funeral services for Miss Alice Abbey, 70, who died Wednesday, August 22, at the Hawarden Hospital, were held Saturday afternoon at the Associated Church with Reverend T.A. Mansen officiating.

Mrs. Ralph Gregg Jr. sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden.” Members of the Rebekah Lodge attended in a body. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral services.

Alice McAninch, daughter of Peter and Rose (Hills) McAninch, was born in Jackson County, Iowa, October 22, 1880. She lived in Jackson County until she was seven when she came to Sioux County with her parents. They located on a farm five miles east of Hawarden.

She was married to Elmer Abbey, March 30, 1898, and ever since she lived on the farm three miles east of Hawarden. Mr. Abbey died December 19, 1939.

Survivors are two sons, Roy of Ireton and Louis, of Hawarden; one sister, Mrs. Nettie Younie of Hawarden; two brothers, J. H. and Sherm McAninch of Hawarden and three grandchildren.

She was a member of the Associated Church and the Ladies Aid of that church, of the Rebekah Lodge and a charter member of the Busy Bee Society.

Out of town people who came for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Zumbach and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Zumbach of Ryan, Iowa.
