MRS. ANNA KLEINFELTER died AT ALEXANDRIA SUNDAY
Lived in this Community for many Years, Resided at Alexandria.

Mrs. Anna Kleinfelter, for many years a resident of this city and community, passed away at her home Alexandria, S. D., at 9:30 Sunday evening. Funeral services were held at Mitchell, and accompanied by her daughter, Miss Maud Kleinfelter, tile body was brought to Hawarden Wednesday noon.

A brief funeral service, attended by numerous old friends and neighbors, was held at the Ross Funeral Home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Rev. T. H. Harding, pastor of the Associated church, in charge, interment was made in the family lot in Grace Hill cemetery.

Anna Whalen, daughter of Charles and Mary Whalen, was born in Blackhawk county, Iowa, near Waterloo, July 27, 1854, and died at Alexandria, S. D., Dec, 12, 1937, at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 15 days. She was united in marriage with George W. Kleinfelter on May 7, 1879. Five children were born to this union. Her husband and four of the children preceded her in death. The eldest son died in infancy while Ray, Inez and Grace passed away after growing to young manhood and womanhood.

One daughter, Miss Maud Kleinfelter, survives. She makes her home at Dickinson, N. D., Where for many years she has served as secretary and treasurer of the North Dakota State Normal School which a former superintendent of the Hawarden schools, the late S. T. May served as president for a number of years, Mrs. Kleinfelter is also survived by one sister Mrs. Evelyn French of Ireton.

Mrs. Kleinfelter spent early years teaching in the vicinity of her tome. Later she attended the State Normal at Cedar Falls to better herself for this work. After her marriage she and her husband farmed in Grundy county, Iowa, for a number of years after which they moved to Sioux county and resided on a farm near Hawarden for many years, later moving into town.

In 1908 some years after the death of her husband, she moved to Alexandria SD with her family in order to look after her farm interests near that place and continued to make her homes there until her death. Mrs. Kleinfelter united with the Baptist church in her youth but after moving to Hawarden transferred he membership to the Congregational church. On moving to Alexandria she transferred to the Presbyterian church at the place. As long as her health permitted she was a faithful attendant at her church and was a ardent worker in the Woman’s Missionary Society of which she was secretary for 25 years.

She was a kind and thoughtful neighbor a splendid mother and had many old friends in Hawarden who learned of her death with sincere regret.
