Death Calls Young Mother

Center Township friends were shocked and grieved when word was received late Thursday that Mrs. Mildred De Vries Simonsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter De Vries had passed away at one thirty, April 26.

Mildred De Vries Simonsen was born in Center Township February 7, 1903 and spent all of her life until she was married three years ago, in this community receiving her education in rural school No. 9. She was a kind and loving wife and mother of three small sons, and the two weeks old infant who was born April fifteenth.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist Church at Hudson, with Rev. L. A. Oakley in charge and the remains were laid to rest beside her sister, Susie, who passed away three years ago, as was her request, in Pleasant View Cemetery here in Ireton.

Those from here to attend the funeral services at Hudson, were Mr. and Mrs. Peter DeVries and children, Mr. and Mrs. Harry De Jager, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Grau, Mrs. E. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Gale Bergsma and daughter Edna, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Taylor, Mrs. Bailey, Mr. and Mrs. Kalsbeek, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Statema, Mr. and Mrs. D. Blyenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Peter De Jager and daughters Grace and Harriet.

YOUNG MOTHER PASSED AWAY AT HUDSON
Funeral For Mrs. Simonsen Held Sat Body Brought To Ireton

Word was received here last Thursday afternoon [April 26] that Mildred De Vries Simonsen of Hudson, S.D., had passed away at one thirty o’clock after a short illness of infection which followed the birth of an infant son, on April 15th.

Funeral services were held at Hudson Saturday afternoon, from the M. E. church, of which the deceased was a member, with the Rev. Oakley in charge. Following the services the remains were brought to Ireton, as was her request and laid to rest beside her sister, Susie who died three years ago.

Mildred De Vries Simonsen was born on a farm a few miles northwest of Ireton, February 17, 1903, and lived to the age of 25 years, 1 month and 10 days. She was united in marriage March 12, 1925, with Ben Simonsen, a business man of Hudson, S.D., where the young couple at once established a home.

Besides her grief stricken husband she is survived by three small sons, Russel Clayton, Carl Eldoon and Walter Maynard, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter De Vries of Center Township, two brothers, Harry of Le Mars and Walter at home, two sisters, Mrs. Stella Jager of Center township and

Nearly the same obituary in the Ireton news section of the Alton Democrat (May 4) identifies Walter Maynard as the two week old infant, and gives the second surviving sister as Mae at home.
