Fred H. “Fritz” Lutjens, 80, 2909 Virginia Street, Sioux City, retired IPS gas supervisor, died Friday in a hospital in Le Mars, after a short illness.

Services were at 10:30 Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church. The Reverend William Skinner officiated. The body was cremated and private family graveside services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Hull.

Lutjens was born February 28, 1907 in Hull where he attended schools. He graduated from Culver Military School in Indiana and received his degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University in 1928. He married Annette Vander Schaaf October 14, 1930 in Iowa City. He worked for Commonwealth Edison Company in Chicago prior to his employment with Iowa Public Service as an electrical engineer. As an employee of IPS for 47 years, he lived in Northwest Iowa, Southeast South Dakota and has been a resident of Sioux City the last 39 years. He retired in 1972 as a gas supervisor.

Lutjens was a member of the Sioux City Noon Lions Club, Wednesday Engineers Club of Sioux City, Elks Point Lodge #3 AF & AM, Sioux City Scottish Rite Bodies and First Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee.

Survivors include his wife; a sister, Mrs. Jack (Marie) Faber of Hull and a granddaughter.

A memorial has been established in his name with First Presbyterian Church.
