Mrs. Margaret Hoekstra, age 89, of Hull, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a funeral service on Friday, March 9, at 10:30am, at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church. The Rev. James Laning will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Margaret was born on December 15, 1928, southwest of Hull, the daughter of Evert and Maggie (Mulder) Van Maanen. She was raised at Hull and graduated from the Perkins Country School.

On February 13, 1948, she married Donald Hoekstra at Hull. They first lived at Pipestone, Minnesota, for a short time and then settled at Hull, where they farmed. In addition to being a homemaker, she was the custodian of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church for 47 years. Donald passed away on August 30, 1994, in Hull.

Mrs. Hoekstra was a member of the Hull Protestant Reformed Church. She enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include five children and their spouses, Peter and Judy Hoekstra, of Ripon, California; Marcella and Marlin Vis, of Holland, Michigan; David and Donna Hoekstra and Donna and Jay De Wit, all of Hull; and Stanley and Barb Hoekstra, of Hawarden; seventeen grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, David Lee Hoekstra, and a great-grandson, Tayven Wallenburg.

Margaret’s five brothers and three sisters and their spouses are (Ella and Andrew Meendering), (Bert and Bernice Van Maanen), (Roy and Grace Van Maanen), (Tom and Gerdena Van Maanen), (Mina) and Ted Hoekstra, (Ed and Alyda) and Christine Van Maanen, (Harold) and Lois Van Maanen, and Jane and Henry Hoksbergen.

Margaret’s six brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law and their spouses are (Martin and Stella Hoekstra) (Eunice and Gerrit Brummel), (George and Greda Hoekstra), Ted and Harriet Hoekstra, (Bernice and Bert Van Maanen), Florence and (Ray Brunsting), (John and Nelva Hoekstra), Dorothy and Alvin Mulder, (Peter and Sharon Hoekstra), and (Henry and Hildred Hoekstra).
