Mr. Randy Van Roekel, age 62, of Orange City, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a memorial gathering to remember Randy on Friday, February 16, at 7:00pm, at the Alton Presbyterian Church in Alton. The Rev. Harlan De Jong will lead the gathering. Interment will be at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton at a later date.

Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is assisting the family.

Randy Dean Van Roekel was born in Le Mars on December 7, 1955, the youngest of four children born to Marion and Jean (Berkenpas) Van Roekel.

He was raised in the Maurice, Alton and Orange City areas and graduated from the Floyd Valley High School in Alton. He attended Westmar College in Le Mars and Northwestern College in Orange City, as well as St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Sioux City, earning his Registered Nurse degree.

Randy was employed in the medical industry for the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City; Sioux County Public Health; Orange City Long Term Care; Hillcrest Health Care in Hawarden; The Bee Hive in Sheldon; the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, and CIVCO Medical Solutions in Orange City. He was currently enjoying his work in the nursing education department of the Northwest Iowa Community College at Sheldon.

Randy was a member of the Alton Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Session and sang in the choir. Through the years, his attitude of service was manifested through his involvement in numerous church and community volunteer activities, most recently with the Sioux County Historical Society and at the Hands Around the World store in Orange City.

Survivors include his sister Judy (Larry) Neal, of Keller, Texas; a brother, Terry (Nancy) Van Roekel, of Hinton; and four nephews, and their respective spouses and children. Also surviving is an aunt, Nancy Kooima, of Rock Valley; and numerous cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Thomas Van Roekel; and a nephew, Richard Neal.

Memorials may be directed to the Sioux County Historical Society.
