MRS. OSCAR LONGINAKER DIES TUESDAY EVENING--LEAVES HUSBAND, DAUGHTER, AND AGED MOTHER TO MOURN HER UNTIMELY DEPARTURE FROM THIS WORLD

Mrs. Oscar Longinaker, a long time resident of Hawarden, passed away shortly before 9 o’clock Tuesday evening just after she had been brought to the Hawarden Hospital. Mrs. Longinaker was seriously ill for some time about a year ago and last April submitted to an operation and since then had seemingly enjoyed good health. She was taken ill Monday with an attack of acute indigestion but it was believed that she was getting along satisfactorily until she suffered the heart attack Tuesday evening and passed away shortly after.

Funeral services will be held at the home at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon and at the Associated Church at 2:30 with Reverend T.H. Harding in charge. Interment will be made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Margaret Marie McPherson, daughter of William T. and Josepha McPherson, was born in Calliope July 31, 1895, and passed away January 14, 1941, having attained the age of 45 years 5 months and 13 days. She attended the Hawarden Public Schools and was graduated from the local high school. After completing her high school education she engaged in the teaching profession and for 10 years she taught in the rural schools of this community. She was united in marriage with Oscar Longinaker at Sioux Falls December 22, 1922, and to this union was born one daughter, Lois Marguerite, who with her husband is left to mourn her untimely death. She is also survived by her aged mother, Mrs. Josepha McPherson; two sisters, Mrs. A.G. (Susie) Herald and Mrs. John (Jennie) Steinfadt and one brother, William J. McPherson all of Hawarden.

Mrs. Longinaker was a member of June Rebekah Lodge, Woodmen Circle, Entre Nous Club and the Busy Bee Club. She took an active part in these various organizations and at different times had served as an officer. The outstanding characteristics of Mrs. Longinaker’s personality were her kind heart and ready wit. She was able to cope with any situation which might come up at the spur of the moment. It was in her home and neighborhood community that she displayed her kindness for in many instances she assisted those who were less fortunate than she. She worked with various organizations in seeing that needy people received necessary aid. For the past number of years she took an active part in most every political campaign, local or otherwise. She always took a decided stand on an issue and was an ardent campaign worker.

Her mother lived in the Longinaker home following the death of her husband in 1936 and Mrs. Longinaker spared no effort in making her as comfortable as possible. Her death is a severe blow not only to her husband and daughter, who have lost a most loving and kind wife and mother but also her mother, who will greatly miss her tender care.
