John H. Lesher was born in La Porte City, Iowa, November 22, 1868. He was the youngest of six children born to John L. and Nancy J. Lesher.

When but thirteen years of age he sought and found the Savior precious to him and during his earthly sojourn he ever leaned for succor and comfort on the breast of Him who said “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” His life was characterized by a singularly pure nature, enriched by Christian graces. He was one whose presences evil would hide itself. Ever ready to do what he could for the cause of the Master and a zealous advocate of temperance, he leaves a place not easily filled.

At the time he was a member of the Free Baptist Church, of Geneva, Nebraska and during his connection with this church he lived a consistent and active life, constant in his attendance at the meetings of the church society and always ready to do his part in the Master’s vineyard.

Wherever he lived he won the esteem and confidence of all. Walking in the sunlight of God’s presence, his life reflected the divine character and gave evidence of reality in the religion of Christ.

He leaves a mother, three sisters and two brothers to mourn his absence and while they shall miss the faithful son and brother, yet they mourn not as those without hope, believing that Christian’s death is but the entrance to a higher; nobler and happier life.

The funeral services were conducted by Reverend B.J. Brown of Spencer at the United Presbyterian Church on Wednesday. A large audience was in attendance to pay their last earthly tribute to the deceased.
