G. W. LENSINK, PIONEER HULL MERCHANT, DEAD--DECEASED WAS IN GENERAL MERCHANDISE BUSINESS HERE FROM 1893 TO 1915 WHEN HE RETIRED

George W. Lensink, Sr., a pioneer business man of Hull, and a resident of Sheldon since 1917, passed away on Wednesday evening, December 24, 1941, at 7:30 o’clock at the Holland Home where he and Mrs. Lensink had resided for the past eight years. Mr. Lensink had reached the age of 84 years and seven months at the time if his passing.

He was a pioneer Businessman of Hull--coming here in 1893, while a resident of Hull he was the owner of a general merchandise store and built the place now occupied by the Bee Hive.

Mr. Lensink retired in 1915 and in 1917 moved with his wife to Sheldon.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 27th, at 9:30 o’clock at the John Lensink home and at 10:00 o’clock at the First Reformed Church of Sheldon. Reverend J.A. Vis officiated. Interment was in Hope Cemetery here at Hull.

George W. Lensink, Sr. was born in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, May 24th, 1857. He resided on the home farm until reaching the age of 22 years when he began work in a general store in Gibbsville, Wisconsin. Three years later he brought out the firm he was working for and operated that store for 10 years. He was also postmaster at Gibbsville during that time.

In 1893, Mr. Lensink moved to Hull, where he bought out a store owned by J.D. Werkman. After several years Mr. Lensink put up a brick building, operating this business 20 years. While living in Hull he served on the town council and also on the school board. He retired from active business in 1915 and moved to Sheldon in 1917.

George Lensink was united in marriage to Miss Jane Bruggink on October 5th, 1881. To this union five children were born, the first baby dying in infancy and the next child passing away at the age of seven years. The three sons who survive are John and George of Sheldon and Fred of Sioux City. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The widow, Jane, also survives.
