Died: February 13, 1929

Peter Leistra passed away at his home in Rock Valley Wednesday night. He suffered a stroke of paralysis last Sunday afternoon, previous to that time he was as well as usual. On Sunday, the day he was stricken, he was up and around as usual and attended church services as was his custom. He was doing his chores Sunday afternoon when he suffered the stroke.

Everything possible was done for him but to no avail. Almost from the first it was evident that he could not survived, and he continued to fail until the end came and he passed away peacefully

Peter P. Leistra, was born in Yyum, Netherlands, April 21, 1858 and passed away at his home in Rock Valley, February 13, 1929 and at the time of his demise was 70 years, 9 months and 22 days of age.

Mr. Leistra was married to Jane Hoekstra, May 31, 1884, and to this union were born four children, one of whom, Cora, departed this life in childhood. He emigrated to America nearly fifty years ago, and early came to Sioux County, and to the vicinity of Rock Valley, and continued to live there, enduring hardships and privations which befell the pioneer farmer. About ten years ago he left the farm and retired to Rock Valley. His life was quiet and unassuming, but gained for him a great host of friends. He shall be keenly missed in the home by his family to whom he was lovingly and tenderly devoted.

He leaves to mourn him of his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Will Evers of Rock Valley; two sons, John Leistra of Rock Valley and Peter A. Leistra of Growrie, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. T. Zuidmen of Orange City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the First Reformed Church Saturday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by Reverend R.D. Douwstra of Rock Valley and Reverend H. Collenbrander of Orange City. Interment was made in the Valley View Cemetery.
