Boyden Reporter Oct 1899
Died at her home four miles south of Boyden Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Rebecka Horn in the 37 year of her age. Mrs. Rebecka Elwood Horn was born Jan. 21, , 1862, in Marion county, Iowa. She was married to Joseph W. Horn February 19, 1879 and died at her home of cancer Oct. 18,1899 at 1:30 P. M. The subject of this sketch was one of Gods noble women, she was a true mother, noble wife and Christian lady, a real blessing to her homo and help to her husband From the cradle of her children to her grave she was a noble example of what a wife can be. She had no time for gossip or fault finding, but saw some good in every one. Hers was a home life devoted to her husband, children and home duties. She came into the north west when the county was now and endured the pioneer life in building up a home. One beauty of this pleasant home has ever been the making of their God a part of the home. Had it not been for an implicit confidence in God the burdens of the last year could never have been borne. For a year she had been a fearful sufferer but the portals opened at last and allowed her pure soul to be ushered into the presence of Jehovah.

About a year ago her death the deceased began develop health problems. An operation was performed which gave no material relief. Another operation disclosed an abbcess and later it developed into malignant cancer. All care could do was done, but the end came at last when she willingly laid all in the hand of Jesus and went to dwell with him. Her friends, husband, children all are satisfied and she shall be satisfied when she awakes in His Likeness.

Her funeral, one of the largest for years in the community, was held in the United Presbyterian church of which she was a member A short service was also held at house. Rev. Acheson her Pastor assisted by Rev. Donoghue conducted the services. Mrs. Horn was an exceptional woman from the fact that she probably didn't have an enemy in the world but her friends were legions. She-leaves a loving husband and eight children, six girls and two boys. There was sorrow and Joy, sadness and rejoicing, tears and pleasure, at her departure. Sorrow, sadness, tears from the fact that wife and mother had been taken away from the home, yet there was joy, rejoicing pleasure and even sacred laughter that God had called her from the dreadful suffering, pain and grief made almost unendurable by disease to peace sweet peace. There is a lesson for all who knew the patient suffering and earnest faith of this dear sister.
