Peter Leenhouts, early resident at Alton passed on at his home Thursday morning, May 2, at four o'clock. He did not rally from a heart attack suffered at 10:30 the previous evening. He had reached the age of 73 years, 9 months and 28 days.

Mr. Leenhouts continued active until a year ago when he had his first heart attack, from which he recovered sufficiently to be about the house and yard.

He was born in Marion, New York and came to Alton, Iowa with his parents. He married Dena Geurink, who passed on in 1932. To the union one daughter was born, the late Mrs. Joe Aberson.

Surviving are four grandchildren; Dena, Mrs. Davis Palsma of Orange City, Anthony, Bertha and Peter Aberson of Alton.

In the year 1934 he married Mrs. Joe Vrieze, who survives him, with her three children: Betty, Mrs. W.A. Blalock of New Orleans, Louisana, John and Joan Vrieze. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Kryn Schuller of Alton.

Mrs. Leenhouts continued farming southeast of Alton until the death of his first wife, when he retired and moved to Alton. He was active in church affairs, serving for some years as deacon of the First Reformed Church here. He was a kind neighbor and friend, devoted to his family and respected by all for his integrity.

Among out-of-town friends here for the funeral services which were held at the home and First Reformed Church Saturday afternoon in charge of Reverend Hesselink were Mrs. Leenhouts's brother, Henry Aberson of Dickinson, North Dakota, Ben Vrieze, Cresco, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lee and three children, Spring Valley, Minnesota, Case Veen of Sheldon and many from neighboring towns.
