From the Rock Valley Bee, October 7, 1927:

Rock Valley friends of Silas Rudd, a former resident of Rock Valley for many years, have received news of his death which occurred at a hospital in Dubuque a few days ago. Mr. Rudd moved from Rock Valley to Sanborn, Iowa, several years ago. He was taken sick with creeping paralysis and went to a hospital in Dubuque for treatment. He lived only a short time after his arrival there. Mr. Rudd will be remembered by a number of people in Rock Valley and vicinity as he was one of the early residents of this place.

His death certificate has Silas Rudd, born Sept. 1, 1849 in Rockford, Ill.; father Silas Rudd, born in Rockford, mother’s name unknown to the informant, Alfred Rudd; wife Elizabeth Mathews; occupation, painter & paperhanger, retired, old age; died at Finley Hospital, Dubuque, at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 7, 1927, of a cerebral hemorrhage, duration 1 day; buried in Asbury Cemetery, Dubuque County, Iowa.
