After a lingering illness, lasting about nine years, Mrs. John Langenhorst, nee Balbina Catherine Peters, died Monday, July 12th at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sioux City where she had been confined since February 13.

Mrs. Langenhorst was born December 27, 1867 to George and Katherine (Moser) Peters at Monona. She grew to young womanhood at the place of her birth. On April 10, 1883 she was united in marriage to John Langenhorst and the young couple set up housekeeping in O’Brien County. Two children were born to this union namely Felix, who passed away in 1934 and Balbena, Mrs. George Hartman of Iona, Minnesota.

In 1915 the Langenhorst retired and moved to Hospers to live in a modern home they had built. In 1934, Mrs. Langenhorst health began to fail and in July 1937 she underwent an operation for the removal of one of her legs when gangrene set in which was caused by diabetes. She had been confined to a wheel chair since but never complained about her ills. On February 13th she was taken to Sioux City where she remained until her death.

Besides the widower, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Felix Langenhorst of Granville, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and three brothers: Mike, George and John Peters all of Monona.

Funeral services were held on Thursday morning at 9 A.M. at St. Anthony’s Church with her nephew Reverend Vernon Peters in charge. Burial was made in the Hospers Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, namely Anthony Langenhorst, John, Felix, Francis and Joseph Hartman and Robert Schneff.
