H. VAN WOUDEN BERG DEAD

H. Van Wouden Berg died at his home in Rock Valley last Sunday evening, following a lingering illness of several weeks. Mr. Van Wouden Berg had lived in Rock Valley for several years and was well known here. Before moving to town he lived on a farm northwest of Rock Valley for several years. He leaves his wife and a family of grownup children. Mr. Van Wouden Berg had attained the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 14 days.

Funeral services were held at the home at one o’clock p.m. Wednesday and at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley at 1:30 o’clock, and the remains were taken to Hope Cemetery near Hull for burial.

DEATH OF H. VAN WOUDENBERG

H. Van Woudenberg, whose death was briefly mentioned in last week’s Bee, was born in Holland, June 23, 1852, and died at his home in Rock Valley, Sunday, May 8, aged 74 years 10 months and 13 days. Although Mr. Woudenberg had not been in good health for more than a year, he was able to walk down town almost every day during the winter, and was confined to his home only about six weeks before he passed away. He was a man who was respected by all who knew him and was a kind husband and father.

Mr. Van Woudenberg came to this country with his family thirty-five years ago. They lived in Montana six months then moved to Hull where they resided five years. They lived one year in Maryland, and six months in Chicago, then returned to Rock Valley vicinity where they lived on farms for a few years. They moved to Rock Valley seventeen years ago, and Mr. Van Woudenberg resided here continuously until his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Woudenberg were married in Holland March 21, 1879. Thirteen children were born to this union, three of whom died in infancy. Those living are Mrs. Jake Westra, Boyden; Mrs. John Speelman and Mrs. Simon Westra, of Sheldon; Henry of near Fairview, S.D.; Mrs. Jake Schol, Little Rock, Iowa; Richard, Salem, S.D.; and Ed. of Akron, Iowa [yes, only seven were listed], all of whom were here to attend the funeral services. He also leaves a wife, twenty grand children and one great grand child.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home at 1:30 and at the First Reformed Church in Rock Valley at 2:00 o’clock, and the remains were taken to the cemetery near Hull.

Van Weouden Berg and Bertha Fooskuil; wife Marie Van Weouden Berg; occupation, retired farmer; resident of Rock Valley 17 years and of the U.S. 34 years; died at 8:30 p.m. May 8, 1927, of apoplexy, duration 8 days; contributory cause, arteriosclerosis, duration 5 years.

(1891-1965).
