RESEARCH NOTES

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Van Meeteran, Johnnie, b. 1925, d. 1927, son of W. W. & M., Hospers Cem Hospers IA. Index entries for other people also consistently spell the surname this way. However, all of the Sioux County obituaries spell the surname Van Meeteren. FindaGrave.com has him as Johnnie Van Meeteren, with a photo of his headstone; the inscription is too faint to read well, but looks like Van Meeteren.

His death certificate has Johnny Van Meeteran[?], resident of Capel Township [where Boyden and Middleburg are located]; born Aug. 20, 1925; parents Walter W. Van Meeteren, born in Iowa, and Maud Bruinooge, born in New Jersey; died in Myers Hospital, Sheldon, at 1 p.m. May 7, 1927, cause acute purulent perforated appendicitis, for which he was operated on May 6, 1927; buried at Hospers.

The Boyden newspaper for the first half of May 1927 is missing.
