Wayne Schmidt, former resident dies Sunday
Wayne D. Schmidt, 45, died unexpectedly at his home at Larchwood Sunday. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lockwood-Jongewaard Funeral Chapel in Rock Rapids with Rev. Harold Cooper officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery at Larchwood. Rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Schmidt was born April 7, 1918 at Chester, S. D. and lived in Rock Valley 15 years before moving to Larchwood four years ago. He married Helen DeBaere Sept 9, 1942 and was employed at the Sioux Falls Laboratories.
Survivors include the widow; three daughters, Lori, Cynthia and Susan, all at home; two sons, Rodney, at home, and Gary, with the Airforce in Italy; the mother, Mrs. Alpha Schmidt, at Larchwood, two brothers, Dallas, Sioux Falls and Francis of Brookings, S. D. and one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father,. A. B Schmidt, and a brother, Kenzie Schmidt.
