From the Rock Valley Bee, October 8, 1926:

FORMER RESIDENT DEAD

The remains of Mrs. Agnes Dunham, a former resident of Rock Valley for over forty years, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Castle Thursday, September 30, were brought to Rock Valley for burial and funeral services, Saturday. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Saturday morning.

Mrs. Dunham was born in Ireland, March 17, 1843, and she had attained the age of 83 years 6 months and 13 days. She went with her parents to Canada when she was a small child. There she grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to James Taylor.

To this union eight children were born. She came with her husband to this country in 1868. They homesteaded near the present town of Hudson, S.D. Mr. Taylor died and she was later married to George Dunham. To this union one child was born. After this they moved to Rock Valley where she resided forty-two years. The last three years of her life were spent with her daughter, Mrs. J. J. Castle, near Larchwood..

She leaves to mourn her death four daughters, one son, five brothers and many friends.

From the Alton Democrat, October 8, 1926, Rock Valley news:

Mrs. G. A. Dunham passed away at midnight Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Castle near Larchwood.

Deceased was born in Ireland March 17, 1843 and at the time of her death had attained the ripe old age of 83 years, 6 months and 12 days. Her husband preceded her to the beyond a number of years ago.

Mrs. Dunham lived in this vicinity many years and had a large circle of friends and many neighbors who are left to mourn her passing with her immediate family. She leaves to mourn three daughters and one son, Mrs. John Castle, of Larchwood, Mrs. Longnecker, Hawarden and Mrs. Arthur McNab of Ames and Charles Taylor, also three brothers.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church at 10:00 Saturday morning, conducted by W. I. Murphy. Interment took place in the Valley View cemetery in the family plot.

Her death certificate gives no additional information, and gives the cause of her death as merely “senility.”
