Passed Away at His Home in Hawarden Monday Night From Pneumonia

John Koopmans, a resident of Hawarden since last March, passed away at his home in the south part of the city about 10 o'clock Monday night.

The immediate cause of his death was an attack of pneumonia, although he had suffered for a long time from heart trouble and did not possess sufficient vitality to successfully combat the pneumonia attack.

Brief funeral services will be held at the home at noon today after which the remains will be taken to Sioux Center where services will be held at the First Christian Reformed church at 2 o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Reverend J. R. Rozendal, pastor of the Christian Reformed Church of Hawarden. Interment will be made at Sioux Center.

John Koopmans was born in Friesland, Netherlands, April 28, 1875, and died in Hawarden July 6, 1931, at the age of 56 years, 2 months and 8 days.

He came to America when 18 years of age and to Orange City on March 1, 1900. That same year he was united in marriage with Miss Jennie Vande Brake at Sioux Center.

They made their home at Sioux Center for seventeen years following their marriage, after which they moved to Colton, South Dakota, where they resided for fourteen years. Last March they moved to Hawarden.

Besides his widow, he is survived by five children, Theodore, Gerrit and Albert Koopman of Colton, South Dakota, and Marinus and Florence at home in Hawarden. One child preceded him in death.

He also leaves four grandchildren, and one brother, Theodore, in California, and one sister, Edith, in the Netherlands. Three brothers preceded him in death.
