Ruth Bergdale, 94, of Alcester, died March 10, 2001, at Morningside Manor.

Funeral service was Thursday, March 15, at Alcester Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Alcester, South Dakota, Wass Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Wilson Bergdale was born January 20, 1907, on a farm near Galva, Iowa, to David and Jessie (Hamilton) Wilson. She attended Miller rural school. She worked at the printing shop in Alcester and later as a cook in Sioux Falls. She married Leslie Bergdale on January 20, 1927. The couple farmed northeast of Alcester, in 1953 they moved to Hawarden, in 1967 they moved to Alcester and into Morningside Manor in 1997. Mr. Bergdale died in January of 1999.

She was an active, lifetime member of the Alcester Baptist Church, and a member of Social Circle Extension Club for 76 years.

Survivors include two sons; Bernard of Alcester, Kelvin of Conyers, Georgia; three daughters, Muriel Goettsch of Winnebago, Illinois, Marge Eilers of Hawarden, Jean Eilers of Valdosta, Georgia; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Ziegler of Sioux Falls, Ramona Ericson of Hawarden; two brothers, Leonard Wilson of Greensburg, Indiana and Dwight Wilson of Oronoga, Missouri.
