Helena Brandt, 83 of Kalamazoo, MI, passed into the arms of Jesus on Tues. Feb. 28 2017.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Fri. March 17, at Third Christian Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, with Rev. Kenneth A. Baker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions many be made to New Friends, 3700 West Michigan Ave. Kalamazoo MI. 49006 All contributions will be forwarded to the Michigan Great Lakes Chapter/Alzheimer's Association.

Helena was born in Orange City on March 31, 1933 the daughter of the late Andrew Huisman and Rena (Kroeze) Huisman.
She taught elementary school in Iowa and then in Imlay City, Michigan, where she met her husband Almon Merle Brandt.
They were united in marriage on Sept. 23, 1954.

He preceded her in death in Jan. of 1980.

Together they had two children, Lisa (Jeff) Jones and Kristie (Chris) Abruzzo.
She is also survived by grandchildren Brant Jones and Anthony (Abby) Abruzzo; four step-grandchildren, Christy (Shane) Dubay, Nicholas Abruzzo, Brian Jones and Michael Jones; and step great-grandchildren; Henry and Benjamin Dubay. Siblings are Vern Huisman, Esther (Rod) DeHaan, Ruth Boone, ELeanor Van Grouw and Alan Huisman; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Third Christian Reformed Church in Kalamazoo and formerly of Imlay City Christian Reformed Church.
She enjoyed volunteering in her community, golf, gardening and walking her dog.
