Mrs. Mary Grooters, age 95, of Hull, formerly of Sanborn, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, December 21, at 10:00am, at the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Todd Zuidema will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday, at 9:00am, at the church.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Wednesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the church. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Mary was born on April 14, 1922, at Doon, the daughter of John and Kate (Van Surksum) Oostra. She was raised in rural Rock Valley, where she attended a country school.

On February 20, 1946, she married Raymond Grooters at Rock Valley. They farmed at Sanborn and later retired into Sanborn, where she was a homemaker. He passed away on September 22, 1989, in Sanborn, after more than 43 years of marriage.

Several years later, she moved to Hull, where she resided at the Colony House, Aspen Heights Assisted Living, and Pleasant Acres.

In earlier years, Mrs. Grooters was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn. She currently belonged to the Hope Christian Reformed Church.

She enjoyed making ceramics, cooking, embroidering, and making puzzles.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Leona and Jim Koele, of Hull; Berdella and Paul Remmele, of Morton, Illinois; and Marlys and Brad Hofman, of Hull; fourteen grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, three brothers and their wives, Bill and Lois Oostra, of Wisconsin; Andy and Wilmina Oostra, of Rock Valley, and Bob and Muriel Oostra, of Hull; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Oostra, of Rock Valley.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter and her husband, Delores and Dave Berggren; a granddaughter, Rhonda Koele; a great-grandson, Dawson Gulker; and six brothers and two sisters and their spouses, Richard Oostra, John Oostra, Jr., Ralph Oostra, Marinus Oostra, Andrew Oostra, Ruth Van Engen, Berdina Van Maanen, Gerald Oostra, and a brother, Jacob Oostra.
