JOHN KONZ, PIONEER SETTLER, PASSES ON

John Konz, pioneer resident of Granville died at his home Saturday, December 10th. He had been in poor health for a year following a stroke. Mr. Konz was born in Luxemburg, July 7, 1861 and came to the united States with his parents at the age of four years. His parents, Mathias and Margareth (Everling) Konz, were one of the eighteen families that traveled three weeks in a caravan of covered wagons drawn by oxen to reach Sioux County, where they established homes in May 1870.

Mr. Konz was married in 1880 to Anna Traelvaler, who died in June 1890. On January 20th, 1901 he married Celia Plathe of Granville. Eleven children were born to the union. Surviving are his wife and ten children: Mrs. Cornelius Wolf (Anna); Mrs. Joe Holten (Rose); Mrs. Lloyd Krieze (Martha) of Remsen; Mrs. Pat Their (Elizabeth) of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; Peter, Bernard, Sylvester, Robert and Raymond, all at home. Albert died five years at the age of ten years. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Susan Hansen of Alton and Mrs. Andy Noethe of Sutherland, one brother, Nic Konz and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph’s Church Tuesday, the Reverend Gerleman officiating. Pallbearers were Peter Klein, Felix Streff, William Rohlke, Nic Haupert, Severt Raveling, Ray Pertz.
