Math Konz, lifelong resident and prominent retired farmer of this community, died Thursday, May 7 at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars, after suffering a stroke.

Mr. Konz was born to Peter and Elizabeth (Koob) Konz November 7, 1886 at Alton. He married Anna Mousel January 12, 1911 and the couple was blessed with seven children. Mrs. Konz died in October, 1924.

Since his retirement Mr. Konz has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Edmund Pittebaurn.

Survivors include four sons: Leonard and Lester, both of Alton; Magnus of Hospers and LeRoy of Remsen; three daughters, Mrs. Edmund Pottebaum and Mrs. Robert Kinney, both of Alton and Mrs. Norbert Wolf of Sioux City; one brother John of Alton; six sisters: Mrs. Otto Probst (Susan) and Mrs. Christine Vortherms, both of Alton; Mrs. Viola Tastove, Adrian, Minnesota and Mrs. Bill O’Gara (Clara) of Huron, South Dakota, Mrs. Frank Jamming (Marge) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Ed Behr (Celia) of El Paso, Texas; 26 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Officiating and burial was in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews: Jimmy and Gary Konz, Marvin Pottebaum, Gary, Don and Ron Wolf.

Many relatives and friends from a distance and from neighboring towns attended the funeral.

As a native of this vicinity and a member of the pioneer family, a successful farmer and good neighbor, Mr. Konz was one of our well known citizens.
