SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. LENA KOOIKER

Funeral services were held Monday, December 7th, at 1:30 at the Boyden First Reformed Church for Mrs. Lena Kooiker, who passed away at the Sheldon hospital, following a long illness.

Reverend Henry G. Schoon officiated with the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon in charge of arrangements. Burial was at the Boyden Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bradley Kooiker of Sheldon, Kenneth Kooiker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Roger and Dick Van Dyk of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and Darrell and Dennis Mouw of Boyden. Mrs. Ray Smit sang "My God and I", and Mrs. Smit and Mrs. Scott Sneller sang "Beyond the Sunset".

Mrs. Kooiker, nee Lena Salie, was born February 5, 1895 at Boyden. She spent her entire life at Boyden and was a member of the First Reformed Church.

She was united in marriage December 25, 1917 to Nick J. Kooiker at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They farmed in the Boyden vicinity until December 26, 1958 when she was preceded by her husband and she moved into the town of Boyden.

She is survived by the following children: (Marjorie) Mrs. Richard Van Dyk of Mount Prospect, Illinois; John Kooiker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Vernon Kooiker of Sheldon; Wilfred Kooiker of Boyden, and (Shirley) Mrs. Paul Kamminga of Hudson, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Westra and Mrs. Leonard Kleyne; two brothers, Datus Salie and Neal Salie, all of Boyden; besides a host of other relatives and friends.
