Mrs. Herbert Koel passed away at her home here last week Tuesday evening, after a lingering illness. She was 72 years old.

Adriana Rietman was born at Zuthen, The Netherlands on December 12, 1873. She was married to Herbert Koel, and they came to this country 53 years ago, settling near Rock Valley and only recently moving into Rock Valley.

Four children were born to the couple, and they with their father, survive. They are: Dora (Mrs. Roy Patrick) of Akron, Iowa, John Koel of Rock Rapids, Johannah (Mrs. Ed Brandt) of Rock Valley, and Mary (Mrs. Dick Bajema) of Hudson, South Dakota. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Evert Rietman, of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the home and at the First Reformed Church, conducted by Reverend J. Aberson. Among those attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig and Lawrence Patrick of Akron, Iowa. John Koel was not able to attend his mother’s funeral as he was ill.
