Elizabeth Hulst, 95, of Sheldon passed away Friday, April 18, 2008, at Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. today at First Reformed Church in Sheldon, with the Reverends David Brower and Gordon Bloemendaal officiating. Graveside services will be 10:15 a.m. today in Greenwood Cemetery, Matlock, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. Elizabeth (Van Zee) Hulst, the daughter of John and Tillie (Baartman) Van Zee, was born in Sibley, Iowa, on September 30, 1912. She lived her youth and received her education in the Sanborn, Iowa, area.

She was united in marriage to Jake Koele on May 5, 1931. To this union three daughters were born. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Hartley, Iowa area. In 1955, they moved to Matlock, Iowa, where they owned and operated the Matlock Grocery Store and Jake was the U.S. postmaster. Jake passed away July 30, 1961.

On May 17, 1968, she married Henry Hulst of Sheldon. Henry passed away October 30, 1998. She moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon to make her home.

She was a member of First Reformed Church of Sheldon.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jake; her second husband, Henry; a daughter and her husband, Joyce and Richard Mohr; two brothers, Henry and Pete; two sisters, Artie and Tillie; and a great-granddaughter, Katherine Ogden.
