Harens, Father born 1839 died 1927 buried in St. Anthony’s cemetery Hospers IA.

Math. Harens age 87 years, 11 months and 20 days died June 28 at the home of his son Mike 3 miles south of Hospers from cancer from which he had suffered for two years.

Deceased was born at Kerscherhoef, Germany July 8, 1839, came to the United States in 1867 and to Sioux County in 1870, being one of the earliest pioneers to settle here. He was married Feb. 9,1875 to Miss Margaret Koob and nine children were born to his union, six of whom survive their father and mother, as follows: Mrs. John Hayen of Coggswell, N. D.; Charles of Marion, S. D.; John of Glencoe, Minn.; Frank of Coggswell, N. D.; Mike of Hospers and Miss Anna of Alton. The children who died were Margaret (Mrs. Fred Rothenbuehler), Mary (Mrs. Peter Wiltger) and Nicholas.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 1, at St Anthony's Catholic church at Hospers, Rev. Sturm of the Granville parish officiating and burial was in St Anthony's cemetery here.

A great host of friends and relatives came to attend the funeral of the pioneer and honor his memory, among others being Mr. and Mrs. Harens son Math and daughters Mary Ann and Margaret of Coggswell, N. D.;.Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harens of Marion, S. D.; John. Harens and children, Regina, Mary and Bernard, Dem. Jemming, of Glencoe, Minn.;! Frank Harens of Coggswell; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rothenbuehler and son Edwin of Garretson, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Math Harens, Peter Kramer and Mrs. Math Kramer of Wilmont Minn., Mrs. J. P. Poeckes of LeMars and many, from surrounding towns.
