From the Rock Valley Bee, July 23, 1926:

MRS. J. C. DEKKER SUMMONED

Mrs. J. C. Dekker passed away at her home south of Rock Valley Tuesday afternoon following an illness of several weeks, aged forty-rive years, four months and seven days

The subject of this sketch was born in Holland March 13, 1881, where she grew to womanhood. She came to this country twenty-three years ago and has lived in this vicinity since that time. She leaves her husband and five sons and two daughters, all living at home.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the home at one o’clock and at the Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley at two o’clock.

The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Dekker, Dirkje, b. 1881, d. 1926, ss John C., Valley View Cem Rock Valley IA.

Her death certificate has her as Derkge Dekker, wife of J. C. Dekker; born March 13, 1881 in Holland; parents Albert Hoogland and Alice Heernik; resident of the U.S. 23 years and of Rock Valley 7 years; died July 20, 1926 at 5 p.m. of chronic nephritis, duration 2 years; buried July 23 in Rock Valley cemetery.

The 1920 U.S. census for Plato Township, Sioux County has John C. Dekker (age 45), a farmer, born Holland, immigrated 1900; wife Derkjen (38), born Holland, immigrated 1902; both are aliens, cannot read, write, or speak English; children, all born in Iowa, Ellice (daughter, 14), Cristian (12), Aalt (10), Hendrik (8), Gerrit (6), Frank (4), and Ida (2/12).
