Orange City was shocked and saddened by the death of Mrs. John T. Klein which occurred last Saturday afternoon at one o’clock after a brief illness. Deceased had been ailing for some time, being afflicted with diabetes, but she was up and around the home until Friday evening. A physician was summoned at one o’clock at night who pronounced it pneumonia and at three o’clock the patient sank into unconsciousness from which she did not awake.

Henrietta Hospers Klein was born at Pella fifty years ago. When but a few years of age her mother died and she was taken by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hospers, who cared for her and at whose home she lived until she became the wife of John T. Klein about twenty-five years ago. Shortly after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Klein came to Sioux County and settled on a farm west of Orange City. Some time later Mr. Klein became steward of the County Poor Farm where they resided eight years. Since then they have been residents of this place.

Besides a sorrowing husband, Mrs. Klein leaves five children: Teunis, Kittie, Gertrude, Henry and Eva, and the following named brothers and sisters: Mrs. A. Smeenk of South Dakota, Peter Hospers of California, Mrs. A.P. Kuyper of Pella, Mrs. W.J. Duiker of Leighton, Mrs. A. Rosendaal of Holland, Nebraska, Reverend Gerrit Hospers of Ontario Center, New York, Mrs. W.W. Schultz of this place, Reverend Henry Hospers of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Professor Issac Hospers of Scranton and Miss Hendrina Hospers of Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the First Reformed Church, services being conducted by Reverend Engelsman in the Holland language and by Professor Welmere in English.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. A.J. Kuyper, Mrs. G. Hospers, Mrs. T. Klein, G.T. Klein, A.T. Klein and Mrs. Vrieselaar of Pella, Henry Klein of Geddes, South Dakota, Mrs. Burggraaf of Doon, J.C. Hospers of Le Mars, Mrs. John Hospers and her children and Mrs. Eddington and Henry Hospers of Sheldon.
