Mayor William H. Klein of Inwood died at a Lennox, South Dakota Hospital February 4th at the age of 62 years, after an illness of ten days.

Mr. Klein was born in The Netherlands, October 6, 1880, and at the age of seven came to the United States with his parents, brothers, and sisters. The family settled at that time in Alton. He married Marie Post of Chancellor, South Dakota in 1906, and the couple have been residents of Inwood since 1912.

For many years he was associated with his brothers in the grain business with elevators at Alton, Hospers and Inwood and for the past twelve years he was grain buyer for Quaker Oats Company at Inwood. He was active in community affairs, having become a charter member of the Inwood Fire Department in 1912, served several times on the city council and served three years as mayor prior to taking that office in 1936.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Marie Klein; a niece, Mrs. Norman Heemstra, and a nephew, William Klein, Jr. who lived in the Klein home since 1921; two sisters and three brothers, namely: Mrs. William Jiskoot of Alton, C.L. Klein, Portland, Oregon; Henry W. Klein of Alton; Mrs. T. Dykema, Sheldon and Alex Klein of Hospers.
