Orval LeRoy Sohl, 84, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home. Services will be held 10:00am Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Morningside Lutheran Church. A visitation will be held 5-7pm Monday evening at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Orv was born January 28, 1933 in George, Iowa, son of Louis and Martha (Hinsch) Sohl. He graduated from Hull High School in 1951 and attended Northwestern College. Orv joined the United States Army on November 18, 1953 and was honorably discharged August 17, 1955. He married Grace Woelber on August 9, 1957. Orv worked in independent sales throughout his working years. Together, the family moved to Sioux City in 1961.
Orv was an active member of Morningside Lutheran Church since 1961 and enjoyed participating in the church softball team. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. With his positive, friendly nature and great sense of humor, Orv made friends and memories in all aspects of his life.
Survivors include his four daughters, Connie Smits and her husband Travis of Sloan, Cathi Swan and her husband Larry of Sioux City, Julie Tucker and her husband Chris of Sloan, and Tracy Ford and her husband Doug of Sioux City; sister, Marty Westphal and her husband Vern of Hull, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Trevor, Justin, and Kaylee Smits, Levi, Colby and Cora Swan, Bayley, Sydney, and Jayna Tucker, Isabelle and Ethan Ford; and special friend, Marge Skokan.
Orv was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Grace; and two grandchildren, Parker Ford and Sadie Swan.
