Mrs. Lenora Van Peursem, age 90, of Sioux City, formerly of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Whispering Creek Senior Living in Sioux City.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, November 21, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 6:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Lenora Mae was born on April 3, 1927 on a farm south of Middleburg to Harry and Jeanette (Van Meeveren) Ver Hoeven. After a move to her family farm north of Alton, she graduated from the Newkirk High School. On June 3, 1947 she married Myron W. “Mike” Van Peursem in Orange City.

For the next 36 years, Lenora and Mike continued farming those 160 acres. In addition, she was a cook at Northwestern College in Orange City for twenty years. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she sang in the Women’s Chorus. For nearly 35 years, camping was also a big part of their married life. They retired in 1983, when they moved into town. In 2006, they moved into their Pioneer Home Condominium and in 2015, she moved to Whispering Creek.

She will be deeply missed by her four children: Jerry and Andrea Van Peursem, of Sioux City; Judy and Nolan Vander Broek of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Marlin and Jane Van Peursem, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Marlo and Sue Van Peursem,of Pella. In addition, she is survived by nine grandchildren and their spouses and eleven great-grandchildren: TJ Gray of Sioux City; Kimberlee Van Peursem of Craig, Colorado; Nicole Caverly (Christina, Michael, Mishelle) of Plano, Texas; Natalie and Matt Yungner (Kate, Gavin) and Nora and Ryan Faircloth (Ellie), both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Jena Van Peursem, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; John and Abigail Van Peursem, of Holland, Michigan; Amara Van Peursem (Landon) and her fiancé, Dave Sowers, of Daphne, Alabama; Kristina and Tony Whitver, of Omaha, Nebraska; and Breanna and Josh Maxwell (Elyse, Serene, Gabe), of West Des Moines. She is also survived by her sister and her husband, Muriel and Cal Langerud, of Mesa, Arizona; and two sisters-in-law: Janel Ver Hoeven, of Longmont, Colorado; and Dolly Van Peursem, of Lantana, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on February 13, 2009; a granddaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Troy Gray; a great grandson, Michael Gray; a brother, Rodger Ver Hoeven; a brother-in-law, Hank Giesman; and her husband’s family: Grace and Neal Mol and Cecil Van Peursem.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
