M. Haupert Aged Alton Resident Dies - Lived in Sioux county Since 1884 and in Alton for Twenty Five Years. - 83 Years of age. Died Wednesday June 19, Following Stroke – 5 children, 7 brothers and sisters Survive.

Michael Haupert, aged resident of Alton passed away at 1;15 p.m. Wednesday, July 19th at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Muth Periot. He was 83 years and 11 months old, and was in god health until about two years ago when he suffered a stroke of paralysis, although he has not been entirely helpless until within the last few days when he had a similar attack.

Mr. Haupert has lived in Alton for many 25 years and in Sioux county since 1884. He was loved and respected by all and will be greatly missed. Five children survive their father. They are John of Bancroft, who arrived at this father’s bedside Monday; Mrs. W. Ahlers of Granville; Mrs. Muth Perlot, Alton; Mrs. M. H. Perlot, Granville; Mrs. Lou Noethe, Alton.

Besides his children he is survived by three brothers and four sisters all home. He is the first of the eight brothers and sisters to go. The others range in age from 75-86 years, Michael being the second son.

Michael Haupert was born at Sandweiler, Luxemburg, August 15th 1838 and came to the US with his parents when he was eight years old. The family settled in Iowa on a farm near Dubuque, where Michael grew to manhood. He was married in Jun 1865 to Mary Ann Monnier at St. Catherine’s, a rural church eight miles from Dubuque.

Eight children were born to this union, of whom two died in infancy and the oldest daughter, Kate, Mrs. August Stroffien of Granville, passed away in 1885. In 1878 the family came west to a farm three miles from Le Mars. They lived six years in Plymouth county and in 1884 moved to Sioux county, purchasing a farm in East Orange twsp. Three miles southwest of Granville, where they lived for many years. In about 1896 Mr. Haupert built a home in Alton , where he and Mrs. Haupert came to live. Both lived to celebrate their golden wedding when which was a big event in the family, all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gathering at the W. Ahlers place near Granville. During their declining years they were cared for by their daughter and son in law. Mr and Mrs. Math Perlot who lived with them. Mrs. Haupert passed on in January 1919. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s church Saturday morning at none o’clock.
