Mrs. Elizabeth Klein, resident of the Hospers vicinity for 50 years, died at the hospital in Orange City, August 28. Funeral services were held September 1, from St. Anthony’s Church, with Reverend Grobel officiating in the absences of the pastor, Reverend Thoennissen. Six grandsons, Edwin, Andrew, Gerald, Ambrose, Paul and Harold Klein, were pallbearers.

Mrs. Klein, nee Elizabeth Metzen, was born January 29, 1873 at Peterstown, Illinois. She was married January 27, 1891, to William E. Klein, who preceded her in death February 21, 1939. Mrs. Klein was 79 years and 7 months old at the time of her passing. The couple lived at Mendota for ten years and came to the Hospers vicinity in 1901.

Ten children were born to the union, of whom seven sons and two daughters survive their mother; Theodore of Ashton, Peter, William and John of Hospers, Henry and Joseph of Ashton, Lawrence of Hospers, Sister Mary Angela Ann, teaching at Alton, and Mrs. Mary Frantzen, who lived with her mother as her constant companion. One daughter, Margaret, preceded her mother in death. Also surviving are 44 grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, five sisters, namely Mrs. Mike Friedrich of Hospers, Mrs. Conrad Sondgeroth and Mrs. John Happ of Mendota, Illinois; Mrs. Rose Becker of Ottawa, Illinois and Miss Regina Metzen of Moline, Illinois.

Mrs. Klein was devoted mother, kind neighbor and a devout member of the local St. Anthony’s Church and Mothers’ Society.
