From the Rock Valley Bee, April 30, 1926:

Death of John Vrugdenhil at Lebanon

John Vrugdenhil of Lebanon, one of the pioneers of Sioux County and a long time resident in Garfield township died at the K. Andla home in Lebanon on Tuesday of cancer, after a prolonged illness, at the age of 68 years and two months. Four months ago he was operated on at Rochester, but nothing could be done for him and the end came Tuesday.

He farmed in Garfield township for many years, and was a good farmer and an honest industrious man. Some years ago he bought a home in the inland town of Lebanon, where his daughter, Mrs. Pasma [Postma?], lives, while his son farms nearby, and there he and his wife lived in peace and happiness, until the wife died some years ago. Later on he sold his home to K. Andla, a kinsman, reserving for himself his own room, for he loved his humble home, with its memories of the departed wife, and he remained there until his death.

Besides the son and daughter at Lebanon he has two married daughters in North Dakota, who are on the way to attend the funeral which will be held in the Lebanon Church on Friday afternoon. He was a deacon of the church at Lebanon, and a good citizen. He and his wife came to this country shortly after they were married and have resided here for over 40 years.—Hudsonite.
