Joseph Michael King was born 12 January 1857 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was married to Elizabeth Salveberg (1869-1921) in Sheridan, Iowa on 2 March 1885. He was a farmer. They had five sons and three daughters. He was widowed in 1921, and he died on 5 April 1923 in Sheridan, Iowa at the age of 66. He was interred at the Sheridan Township Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Joseph Michael King (1858-1923)
Joseph King, brother of Ross King, of Rock Rapids, and father of Rosille King, of Edna, died Thursday, April 5, 1923 at his home north of Boyden after a three weeks illness with the flu. He had been troubled with cancer of the liver for some time. Interment was at Boyden beside the body of his, wife, who passed away about two years ago. Mr. King was 65 years of age and had lived in this part of the county for about forty years. He was well liked by all who knew him.

He is mourned by the following sons and daughters: Joseph F. King Savannah, Mo.; Rosille King, Edna; Mrs. A. L. Schirm and Nelson King Canton, South Dakota; Misses Dorothy and Cordelia King, who are attending school at Cherokee. Brothers and sisters are Ross King, Rock Rapids; Israel King and Mrs.Cordelia McCapes, Vermillion, South Dakota, and Mrs. Jennie Hillers, Des Moines.
