LONG-TIME ALTON RESIDENT PASSES AWAY--JEROME KINNEY RITES HELD AT ALTON ON SATURDAY--DIED AT ST. JOSEPH’S HOSPITAL, SIOUX CITY

Michael Jerome Kinney, long time Alton resident passes on at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital, Sioux City on February 14th at the age of 58 years, 2 months, and 12 days.

Mr. Kinney was in excellent health until January of this year. He entered St. Joseph’s Hospital January 16th after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, two daughters: Mrs. H.E. Vande Steeg of Le Mars and Mrs. Leo Barrett of Sioux City; one brother, James Kinney of Alton; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Arens of Salem, South Dakota and Mrs. J. List of Granville. There are three grandchildren.

Mr. Kinney was born December 3, 1881, at Alton, where he grew to manhood. He received his education at St. Mary’s Academy, Alton; Le Mars Normal and Mankata Business College.

He was united in marriage August 27, 1907 to Elizabeth Lucid at Yankton, South Dakota. For many years he was a grain buyer but returned to the farm in 1918, remaining for ten years on the farm south of Alton. In 1928 he moved to Sioux City where he resided at the time of his death.

A native of the Alton community and the son of pioneer parents. Jerome Kinney literally grew up with the country. The Kinney home was one of those hospitably farm homes where neighbors and strangers were sure to find a cordial welcome and the young people were trained in those graces and virtues which have made them fine citizens, good parents and true friends. Mr. Kinney will be missed by hundreds of friends as well as by the members of his immediate family.
