Mrs. James (Maybelle) Kinney, 73, of Granville, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 21, 1997 while on vacation in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville. Reverend Clem Currans officiated. Burial was in Granville under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Maybelle was born April 12, 1924 at rural Granville, the daughter of William and Mary (Schneiders) Bohlke. She was raised in Granville area where she attended rural school. She married James P. Kinney on November 18, 1943 at Alton. They made their home in Hospers and farmed near Alton. She did custodial work for St. Anthony’s School in Hospers from 1966-1976 and was a cook in the school hot lunch program from 1967 until 1993 when she retired. Mr. Kinney died March 30, 1990. She moved into Granville in November, 1994.

Mrs. Kinney was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Church Guild.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary and her husband Jerry Bird of Alton, Pat Phillips and special friend Dennis Denny of Sioux City, Jan and her husband Kevin Budden of Granville; three sons, Dennis and his wife Lois of Le Mars, Dave and his wife Cindy of Sioux City and Dick of Denver, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret and her husband Arnold Beeler of Worthington, Minnesota and Mrs. Roman (Delores) Collig of Spencer; and two brothers, Edmund and his wife Aggie of Reading, Minnesota and Dan and his wife Mary of Marshallton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother, James Bohike.
