From the Sioux County Index (Hull), February 26, 1926:

RUTH BOLKS DIES

The little eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bolks, of south west of Hull, died Tuesday evening at the hospital, after a second operation performed in an effort to save her life. Ruth Mildred was operated upon for a ruptured appendix some time ago, but a complication set in on account of “flu” and all that human hands could do was of no avail, and the little soul passed to the great beyond.

Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents and brothers and sisters in their great bereavement. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, at the home and from the American Reformed church of Hull, services at the church starting at 2 o’clock, with Rev. Chas. Stopples in charge.

Her death certificate shows her as Ruth Mildred Bolks, born Dec. 13, 1917 in Iowa; parents John B. Bolks and May Weaver, both born in Michigan; died Feb. 24, 1926 at 1 a.m.; cause pneumonia, lobar, duration 7 days; contributory, ruptured appendix, 10 days, operated on Feb. 14; buried in Hope Cemetery.
