FRANK H. KETTLER, FORMER ALTON BOY, PASSES ON SUNDAY

Frank H. Kettler, well known hardware dealer at Mapleton, Iowa, died Sunday morning in a Sioux City Hospital after an illness of some weeks. He was born at Cottonville, Iowa, July9, 1890 and came with his parents and other members of the Bernard Kettler family to Alton in 1900 where he attended St. Mary’s Academy and learned the hardware business in the A.M. Braskamp, Sr., store here.

In 1915 he and the late Albert Probst bought a hardware business at Homer, Nebraska, which they operated successfully for some years and in 1933 he established a hardware business in Mapleton, Iowa which he and his son, Melvin operated with great success. Frank retired from the business in 1956.

He married Ida Henkels at Alton on June 5, 1917, but she passed away some years later and on October 3, 1932, he married Lillian Guillaume at South Sioux City, Nebraska, who survives him. He is also survived by his son, Melvin and by one daughter, Mrs. Gordon Cornwell of Anton; by two brothers, Otto P. of Anton and Oswald--Mrs. Alma Schneider of Granville, Mrs. Clara Fath of Kenneth, Minnesota, and Mrs. Elnora Mousel of Chicago, and by one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held in St. Mary’s Church at Mapleton Tuesday morning and interment was in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery at Alton at about one o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Kettler was a member of St. Mary’s Church at Mapleton, the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, Mapleton Club, Willow Vale Golf Club and the Iowa Retail Hardware Dealers Association.

He was a frequent visitor at the home of his brother Otto at Alton and had a great many friends here who will miss his cheerful presences.
